Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on External Security, Col. Alex Igbaya Ashungu rtd., has said more soldiers and Mobile Police Officers have been deployed to Apa and Agatu to stop killings in the two (2)local government area.
He said this while debunking reports of renewed killings in Apa local government area of the State.
It would be noted that reports had made the rounds that at least 9 persons were killed at the weekend.
However, the security Adviser in a phone interview with the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in the area, said “everywhere is calm. There have been deployment of over 45 mobile Police officers who are keeping peace in the area”.
Similarly, the Agatu local government chairman Yakubu Ochepo also confirmed that there has been deployment of more soldiers and Police officers to his council, adding that those who fled from the attackers, have started returning home gradually.
“Everywher is calm now, the soldiers are at he fringes guarding the area. Most people have even starting returning home”, Ochepo said.
In another vein, the adviser further disclosed of a communal clash in Nyiev Community around Jato Aka which witnessed large destruction of houses but no life was lost.
“When I got the information, I acted swiftly by calling Operation Whirl Stroke. They did not waste time in intervening to restore normalcy”, Col Ashungu rtd stated.
