To ensure the safety and security of lives and property residents of Abuja resides, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike has approved the formation of two joint-security taskforces to flush out criminal elements from the nation’s capital.

In particular the strategic taskforces, comprising of all security agencies domiciled in the FCT are charged to immediately commences operations to curtail the activities of one-chance syndicates, armed robbers, kidnappers and all forms of criminality within the Territory and its environs.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Haruna Garba, who led representatives of military and other paramilitary formations in FCT, director of FCTA Department of Security Services, Adamu Gwary and other senior FCTA officials to brief journalists on the outcome of the last Friday’s FCT Security Council meeting headed by the Minister, in Abuja.

Garba said the goal is basically to immediately begin to flush out criminal elements from the FCT, to stop cross border crimes and to curb the activities of one chance in the FCT.

He said: “These security operations will commence in earnest.

“The FCT security council meeting, headed by Wike, met and discussed ways and means of ensuring safety and security in FCT.

“However, some of the one chance operators have been arrested and would be prosecuted after investigations were concluded.”

According to him, the task force would ensure complete crack down of “one chance” activities in the FCT, hence residents would see significant improvement in the coming days.

He therefore assured the residents of commitment of heads of security agencies to work with authorities of the FCT Administration to swiftly curtail all forms of criminality within the FCT and its environment.

He added that the FCT will soon witness notable decline in the activities of the “one-chance” robbery syndicates.

Furthermore, while commenting on the recent raids on mechanic workshops within the city and other flash points, the Commissioner opined that a lot of people come into the city with no well-defined purpose and end up in uncompleted buildings, mechanic workshops and under the bridges, resorting to nefarious activities.

The Commissioner also enjoined residents to report criminal activities to the security agencies through the emergency response lines, adding that security is everybody’s business.
