Suspected Boko Haram insurgents, riding on four motorcycles, invaded Alau Ngawo Fatoye village of Jere Local Government Area of Borno state killing two residents and injured nine others.
Alau is about 10 kilometers from Maiduguri and had suffered series of attacks carried out the Boko Haram militants.
In the latest incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, the invaders reportedly set the entire village on fire, even as hundreds of houses were burnt to ashes.
A resident of the village, Malam Bukar Mustapha, who spoke to our correspondent on phone, said the onslaught happened around 10 p.m., when over 12 gunmen rode into the area on four motorcycles, each carrying three persons.
Malam Mustapha said if not the villagers were hinted on the impending attack, the casualty would have been higher.
“The gunmen had a field day as they wreaked havoc on the village chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’ in Arabic language (God is Great) and left without no confrontation from the armless residents, who mostly fled and hid into the bush during the time of the attack.
“When they arrived, majority of our people who got hint of their coming fled into the bush; so they met only few persons.
As I am talking to you, some of our people are still missing, as we ran into the bush for our safety and unfortunately, the security agencies are yet to be deployed to the scene, not to talk of any arrest.
At the end of the attack, the gunmen killed two residents, burnt hundreds of houses and shops, before carting away assorted foodstuff and livestock”, he said.
