The State Security Service (SSS) in Sokoto state have arrested 28yr-old alleged internet fraudsters that specialised in impersonating Facebook accounts of some personalities including the Sokoto state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
The SSS Director in the state, Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, while briefing Journalists in Sokoto, said the suspect was arrested in Edo state alongside his accomplish.
Ibrahim gave the name of the alleged fraudsters as Endogo Ediseimokumor, a native of Bayelsa state. He said the suspect had perfected the act by creating a facebook account of the governor and other high profile personalities with pictures to deceive the general public.
Upon investigation, the director explained that the suspect confessed to the act, adding that he had reealised the sum of N1.5 million from the fraudulent activities.
“Upon our investigation, it was discovered the suspect has been cunning his unsuspected victims between N10, 000 and N50, 000 deceiving them to purchase employment forms,” he explained.
Ibrahim added that printed forms, laptop, modern, Driver licence, Mtn cards were among the exhibits recovered from the suspect.
Also paraded is a 20 year old man and an accomplish of the principal suspect, who posed as a female on social media platforms with beautiful pictures to defraud the public.
Othes include a teenager who defrauded his victim to the tune of N250,000 and another nabbed for sending threatened text messages to his victims in order to extort money from them.
