An international non-governmental organisations IPAS has urged the parents particularly women to contribute their quota towards successful implementations of Violence Against Persons and Prohibition Law in Jigawa state.
The IPAS country director Mr lucky Palmer made the appeal during a one-day gathering for the dissemination of VAPPs law organised by Jigawa VAPP coalition held at state library Dutse.
Mr lucky explained that, parents particularly women have a vital role to play in actualization and fully implementation of the law as according to him it is only when the perpetrators are exposed to the related authorities then the actions will be taken.
He said, government and lawmakers have done their part by domesticating, passing and signing the bill to law with ensuring to enforce the law to anybody who was found guilty.
The IPAS country director then commended governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and members of Jigawa State house of Assembly for passing and signing the bill into law.
While speaking at the occasion, the chairman comnittee on judiciary in the state House of Assembly Barrister Muhammad Abubakar Jallo said, the house will continue to all it best and ensure the speedy prosecution of any case related to rape in the state.
Also delivering his speech at the gathering, the chairman Jigawa state VAPPs coalition Alhaji Lawal Y Abdullahi promised to collaborate with all other stakeholders particularly media, traditional and religious leaders for the sensitization of Jigawa people on the VAPPs law.
