Islamic Foundation faults FG efforts on Chibok girls’ abduction

The Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF) has accused the Federal Government of not showing enough commitment in securing the release of the 234 school girls abducted by the Islamic Sect, Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno state.

The National Coordinator of the Foundation, Malam Aliyu Bhadmus, said this at the weekend, during the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the group.

IWF urged the Federal Government to take appropriate steps to rescue the school girls, saying that governance is about protecting the life of every Nigerian.

“For almost three weeks, more than 200 school girls are left in the mercy of these criminals and government, in our view, has not shown enough commitment to securing their freedom.

“There is the need for more pro-active, coordinated and concerted efforts on the part of the nation’s security apparatus to put an end to insurgency in Nigeria. In our view the best options are good governance, creation of employment for the teeming unemployed graduates and total extermination of poverty from the polity.”

The former Speaker of Osun state House of Assembly, Professor Mojeed Alabi, in a paper entitled: “Muslims and Political Developments in Nigeria” said that there is a connection between Islam and politics, adding that while Islam is a way of life, politics is just one of them.

He blamed the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for poor representation of Muslims at the on-going Confab, stressing that the NSCIA, as presently composed, is inadequately equipped to play any enviable role in the circumstance.

He also advised politicians inside and outside of power to be conscious of the ephemeral nature of power, “and that the success or otherwise of the trust of power placed on us by almighty Allah is measured by how much we have touched lives of our fellow human beings.”
