The Borno State Government has declared Thursday, 26th June, a public holiday to mark the beginning of the new Islamic year, 1447 After Hijrah (AH).
The Muharram Islamically is the first month of the Islamic calendar.
In a statement, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bukar Tijani, announced that the work-free day applies to all institutions, including offices, schools, and financial institutions.
“On behalf of the Borno State Government, I wish to declare Thursday, 26th June, a public holiday to mark the new Islamic year, 1447 AH. All institutions, including offices, schools, and financial institutions, are requested to comply,” He stated.
He added, “Let me use this opportunity to congratulate the Muslim Ummah and the entire people of the state for witnessing the new year.”
The statement urged residents to use the occasion for reflection and spiritual renewal for the betterment of the state and the nation as a whole.
