Popular controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has called on Venezuelans to adopt Islam, linking his appeal to recent political developments in the South American country.
Gumi made the statement in a post on his Facebook page while reacting to reports that Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, was captured on Saturday by United States forces.
According to the cleric, embracing Islam would strengthen Venezuela’s moral foundation and enhance the country’s ability to confront both internal and external challenges. He argued that Islam offers a moral and ideological alternative to what he described as global injustice and hypocrisy.
“Venezuelans should adopt Islam. That will give them the moral rectitude to leave drugs, and the courage to repel the Devil and imperial subjugation. Islam remains the only force that is a substitute for the current world’s injustice and hypocrisy,” Gumi wrote.
His comments come amid Venezuela’s prolonged political and economic crisis, characterised by intense power struggles between the government and opposition groups, international sanctions, and allegations of foreign interference.
The country has also faced severe economic hardship, including hyperinflation, mass migration, and claims that drug trafficking routes pass through parts of Latin America.
Tensions between Venezuela and the United States have persisted for years, with Washington accusing the Maduro administration of corruption, human rights abuses and narco-terrorism, while Venezuelan authorities have consistently alleged attempts at regime change and imperial domination by foreign powers.

But, I think there should be an evaluation of what has been happening in the countries that practice Islam in 100% , cant he point to IRAN ruling completely by Islamic ideology since 1979, their exchange rate was around 70 to 1dollar, but today it’s 1,450,000 to a dollar, then look at Somalia too, Afghanistan, Parkistan, and so on, so where is PEACE in all of these countries?
