IWD: Jigawa Governor’s wife pledges support as NLC Women’s C’ttee demands more opportunities

The wife of the Jigawa State Governor, Hajiya Dr. Amina Umar Namadi, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving the lives of women and children across the state.
​Dr. Amina gave this assurance on Tuesday during the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women’s Committee.
The event was held at the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) hall in Dutse.
​“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I assure you of the Jigawa State government’s continued commitment to women’s inclusion.
“Women serve as the foundation of every community, and providing them with opportunities remains a priority,” she stated.
She further noted that the state government has introduced various programs specifically designed to address the unique challenges women face, with a focus on economic empowerment and fostering financial independence.
​In her remarks, the Chairperson of the NLC Women’s Committee (Jigawa State Chapter), Comrade Salma Ilyasu Abubakar, emphasized that the gathering was not merely for celebration, but a time to reflect on existing challenges and take decisive action.
This year’s local theme, “Right, Justice, and Action for All Women and Girls,” serves as a call to move beyond rhetoric and toward sustained efforts that transform lives. Comrade Salma highlighted three critical pillars of this mission.
​“Ensuring every woman and girl has access to education, healthcare, decent work, and freedom from violence and discrimination.
​“Creating a responsive legal system that works for women, protects their interests, and holds violators accountable.
“Challenging harmful social norms and creating pathways for women to lead and succeed in all sectors.” She stated. ​ the spelling of “violence” and “Workers’ Union.”
