From Ahmad Muhammad, Bauchi.
In a strategic move to capitalize on the widening cracks within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has formally invited Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to join its ranks.
The Bauchi State Chapter of the PRP, alongside national stakeholders, positioned the party as a “crisis-free sanctuary” for the Governor and his massive followings, promising him a stable platform ahead of future electoral cycles.
During a press conference in Bauchi, the State Chairman, Abdurrahman Yusuf Mu’azu, stood alongside the National Coordinator of the PRP Glory Restoration Group, Barrister Sufyanu Gambo Idris, to express their readiness to receive the Governor.
In an unprecedented move of political concession, Mu’azu suggested that the current leadership is willing to step aside to accommodate the Governor’s interests.
He said: “Our doors are open, and we look forward to building a united political future together—even if it means surrendering our current positions to him.
“We want to assure him that his political interests and those of his followers will be fully accommodated.”
With the Governor’s relationship with the PDP reportedly reaching a breaking point due to “irreconcilable differences,” and talks with the APC allegedly stalled, the PRP is pitching its lack of internal litigation as its primary selling point.
Barrister Sufyanu Gambo Idris emphasized that the PRP offers a “level playing field” free from the legal battles that plague Nigeria’s larger parties.
The party claims a complete absence of factional disputes such as absence of pending court cases regarding party structure and a guarantee of transparency for all defecting loyalists.
The PRP’s invitation comes at a time when Governor Mohammed has become the most sought-after “political bride” in the region. Other parties, including the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)—erroneously referred to in some circles as the NDC—and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are also reportedly making moves to woo the Governor.
While Governor Mohammed continues consultations on his political future, the PRP’s bold offer to hand over party machinery suggests that the race for his signature is intensifying.
