The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disowned a fraudulent bank account allegedly being used to scam candidates seeking rescheduled examinations for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement  by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, the examination body dissociated itself from account number 85017 at Sterling Bank, which has been linked to a scheme targeting candidates who missed the UTME.

According to the statement, alleged fraudsters operating have been soliciting payments of N15,700 from unsuspecting candidates, claiming the money is for exam rescheduling.

“This is a blatant scam,” the statement read. “We urge the public not to fall for such deceitful tactics. The individuals behind this scheme have no affiliation with JAMB or any legitimate government agency. The account in question has no connection to any official process and exists solely for fraudulent purposes.”

JAMB called on Sterling Bank to take immediate action to shut down the account and said it had reported the matter to security agencies, who are working to track down the perpetrators.

The board also clarified its policy on exam rescheduling, emphasizing that it does not reschedule exams for candidates who miss their tests due to personal reasons.

“However, candidates who were unable to sit for the exam due to biometric verification failures are being investigated,” the statement added. “Those cleared of discrepancies will be invited to retake the exam at no cost—no payment is required.”

JAMB urged candidates to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, warning that it does not charge additional fees after registration has been completed.
