Executive Vice President (EVP) of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Association, Aso, Peter Emmanuel Yilbrem,has said that technology is the driving force behind today’s “skills economy”, urging young Nigerians to embrace innovation and constant self-improvement to remain competitive.
Speaking at the Membership Development Summit (MDS) 4.0 certification ceremony in Abuja, organised by JCI ASO Abuja, Yilbrem stressed that the programme was designed to equip young people with leadership abilities, entrepreneurial skills and the adaptability needed in a rapidly evolving global market.

“The best we can do is to leverage this economy, apply our skills, sell ourselves and take advantage of opportunities in the wider labour market without restricting ourselves to the spaces we currently occupy,”Yilbrem said.
According to him, technology was making life and work faster than ever, making it crucial for young people to identify vital sectors and master relevant skills.
“We have identified three key areas that embed critical skills, and we are eager to see these graduates step up and take full responsibility for their futures,” he added.
Chairperson of Membership Development Summit (MDS)2025, Shofu Ajayi, described the training as a wake-up call for members to “skill up, step up” in whatever field they operate, be it business, corporate work or technology.
“The world is changing quickly, and we want our members to always be updated, upgraded and elevated,” Ajayi said.
JCI Abuja Unity President, Barrister Chinelo Eze, highlighted skill development as essential for personal growth, workplace success and economic progress.
“Whether in artificial intelligence or other soft skills, the ability to learn and adapt will help our youth excel and contribute to Nigeria’s economy,” she said.
National President of JCI Nigeria, Ambassador Oluwatoyin Atanda, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to providing young people with opportunities beyond their immediate environment.
“Our mission is to develop them not only in their careers but also in their professional and personal lives to ensure they achieve success,” she said.
Former JCI Nigeria National President, Dr Tunde Anifowose-Kelani, in his presentation, advised participants to complement their knowledge with focus, honesty and dedication.
“Be realistic, avoid arrogance, keep learning, and maintain strong networks. Your commitment to applying knowledge will define your success,” he said.
The Membership Development Summit (MDS) 4.0, held from 17th June to 10th August 2025, was a structured, multi-track capacity-building program by JCI Aso in collaboration with JCI Abuja Unity, JCI Abuja Prestige, and JCI Abuja Metro, designed to equip participants with practical skills for the evolving world of work.
