The Jigawa State House of Assembly with support from United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is working to reduce the number of out of schools children in Jigawa state by 90 to 95 percent before 2030.
The education manager UNICEF field office Kano, Mr Macheal Banda while delivering his remarks at an event to distribute materials to school children in Jigawa state.
He explained that, the members of Jigawa state house of Assembly together with UNICEF team gathered in Kaduna state and agreed to reduce the highest number of out of schools children to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“As part of effort to ensure quality education interm of access and learning, we are here to provide support to the members of Jigawa state house of Assembly to ensure 90 to 95 percent of out of schools children are back to school.
He maintained that, though Jigawa state is not doing very well in reducing of out of schools children, but with present political leadership committiment, parents, community and other stakeholders, the target could not be achieved.
According to him, UNICEF also embarked on massive media enlightenment, engagement of all stakeholders to advocate for increased and more release of fund to address the challenges of not only out of schools children and provision of integrated curriculum to Qur’anic schools to achieve literacy and numeracy level.
The party said it has already commenced strategies to ensure that it wins the next presidential election.
Rising from the South West zonal meeting of the party held at Ede in Osun State, the party said its resolve to commence early preparation for the 2027 election was to ensure victory in the polls
