Jigawa: Food, nutrition policies’ll spur growth, devt, says UNICEF

The United Nation International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said with the formal launch of state social protection and state food and nutrition policies by Jigawa state government, the state would in a near future witness a rapid growth and development.
The UNICEF Bauchi Chief Field Officer, Mr. Bhanu Pathak who was represented by the UNICEF Nutrition Specialist, Mrs Philomena Irene stated this yesterday at the lunch of Jigawa state food, nutrition and social protection policies held at Ahmadu Bello Hall, new secretariat Dutse.
She explained that the launch of the programme is not only timely but also reflects a prudent investment in the well-being and future growth of Jigawa state communities and constituents.
Irene maintained that, UNICEF will continue to work in collaboration with Jigawa state government to improve the accountability for nutrition financing, development of the capacity workforce, improve the functionality and efficacy of nutrition information systems and in advocating for accountability and inclusive leadership.
While lunching the two policies, the state governor, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Badaru who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadeja said, “today is a major milestone in the present administration quest to be strategic and focused as to sustainably improve the human development index particularly as it effects the survival, protection and development of women and children.”
The deputy governor who described the nine social protection domains as improvement of education and health services, child welfare and protection, special housing, livelihood and employment, social insurance schemes, social assistance, micro-small enterprise development, religious/traditional family and community support and legal support and mediation.
He then appreciated all the partners particularly Unicef, UKaid, saving the children for their support to make Jigawa best among the all.
