Jigawa govt begins fresh goat breeding programme for widows

The Jigawa state government under its empowerment programme, goat breeding and rearing for widows has yesterday lunched the goats micro credit recovery from the pioneer beneficial widows and reallocate to other widows.
It could be recalled that, the programme was launched in July 2015 with the aim of alleviating vulnerable women from extreme poverty across the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Badaru who was represented by the Secretary to Jigawa State Government, Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Fanini said, a total sum of N116.557 million was committed for the programme.
He explained that, a total of 17,220 live goats were procured and allocated to 5,740 beneficiaries drawn from 287 political wards across the state adding that twenty widows were selected each ward and empowered with three goats.
According him, the programme within two years of its implementation was fruitful as the economy of Jigawa state was growing as a result of empowerment of women.
The governor maintained that, the state government constituted a retrieval and re allocation of the goats for others to benefit.
He n called on the pioneer benefitting widows across the state to reciprocate the kind gesture of the credit offered to them by making full repayment of the credit package in good time for fresh widows to benefit.
