In preparation against a possible spill-over of Ebola virus, the Jigawa state government has set up an advocacy committee with a view of containing the deadly disease.
Addressing a press conference in Dutse, the state commissioner of health Dr. Abubakar Tafida said since the emergence of the virus two weeks ago when a Liberian man came into the country with the case of Ebola the government adopted measures to stop the spread of the virus into the state, adding that the committee consist of representatives of WHO, Director disease control, Port health, Nigeria Immigration Service and other stake holders.
The commissioner was represented by the Director Disease Control, Dr. Mohammed Abdullahi Kainuwa that the committee is saddled with the responsibility of awareness to the general public, a strengthened surveillance system across the 27 LGA’s, sensitizing clinical assistance on how to handle patients in case of any eventuality.
The commissioner commended the federal government and Lagos state government, for contacting the Liberian government on the development as well as expediting action to fight in the spread of the virus to other parts of the country.
