Members of Keffi Old Boys Association (KOBA) have honoured the Immediate past Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Andrew Yakubu and five other prominent members of the association with the prestigious Cheetah Golden Award.
In a statement signed by the Association National Publicity Secretary, Mr. John Shiklam made available to newsmen in Kaduna said the award was in recognition of their achievements and meritorious service to the nation.
The five other individuals honoured were Chief Judge of Kogi state, Hon. Justice Nasir Ajana, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. David Shikfu Parradang, National Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Others include Dr. Abdulkadir Oniyangi, former Justice Minister Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim (SAN) and ECOWAS Advisory Training Team Chief to Liberia and Major. Gen. Suraj Alao Abdurrahman .
Also to be honoured, according to the statement is the Nasarawa state governor, Alhaji Tanko Almakura for his keen interest and support to Government College Keffi and contribution to the development of the education sector in Nasarawa state.
The group further stated that the award ceremony which was slated for August 15, 2014 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja would be followed by a fund raising to tackle infrastructure decay in the college which was founded in 1949.
“over N1 billion is required for the renovation of classrooms, hostels, provision of classroom furniture, provisions of laboratory equipment, library, water supply, among others. We called on all members of the association across the country to take interest in their alma Mata by contributing their quota to the revival of the cherish traditions of the college,” he said.
The statement lamented that the college which was noted for high academic standard and “military like discipline” had deteriorated to an unimaginable proportion and requires the support of all boys.
The statement added that the school had produced many prominent Nigerians, adding that many of the northern elites were beneficiaries of the famous college in the north and urged them to come to restore the past glory of the school by contributing towards the provision of basic infrastructure in the school.
