Joint security operation repel bandits’ attack on Tureta LGA, Sokoto State

A combined team of the Military, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and vigilantes on Sunday afternoon repelled a bandits’ attack on Tureta town, Headquarters of Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
This was confirmed  to our Correspondent on Sunday in a telephone interview by the Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Aliyu Abubakar Tureta.
According to him, the success was recorded in a operation led by the Commander, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Sokoto’ State Police Command, DSP Jafar  Makama.
He listed others involved in the operation to thwart the bandits’ attack as the Operatives of the Tureta Division led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), and other relevant security agencies.
According to chairman, an undisclosed number of cattle and camels were seized from the bandits, as well as two motorcycles.
He said that the combined team of the security operatives were currently battling another group of bandits in some villages, including Dorowa and Matseri, among others.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, told our Correspondent on Sunday via telephone that the operation was still ongoing.
“Yes, I have just confirmed from the DPO that the operation is still ongoing to roundly tackle the marauding bandits.
“However, there is no casualty on both sides as at now. There is also no any kidnapping effected.
“I will keep you updated on the ongoing operation, ” DSP Ahmad Rufai, added.
