President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday met with the leadership of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau state, on how to ensure industrial harmony in the country.

Briefing State House correspondents after the parley, NIPSS Director-General, Professor Tijjani Mohammed, said “What we discussed with the president was on the way forward in trying to get labour matters properly understood so that there will be industrial harmony, which will lead to better productivity of Nigerian workers whether in the public or private sector”.

He continued: “Our report was given based on a 10-man study, which involved labour leaders, scholars, ministers of different ministries and agencies. It’s not a report of the view of anyone; it is a report of what is good for the Nigerian people, be it government, labour or workers or Nigerian public.”

Asked whether similar reports in the past have been implemented by the Presidency, Mohammed said, “It is important to note that many recommendations given by the Institute at fora like this have been implemented or are being implemented. Even the president has agreed that we need to do more to implement the recommendations.”
