President Goodluck Jonathan has called on the private sector to enter into partnership with government to provide and maintain the country’s infrastructure, assuring that their investments are safe.
The President made the call in an address read on his behalf by the Minister of Works, Arc. Mike Onolememen at the on-going World Engineering Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure (WECSI 2014), in Abuja yesterday.
“The existing public funding sources are not enough to provide the required infrastructure necessary for rapid economic and well being of nations anymore. Consequently, the private sector is being encouraged to enter into partnership with government to provide and maintain infrastructure while a conducive atmosphere is being created to ensure that adequate returns on and protection of investments are guaranteed”, he said.
While speaking earlier, President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr. Isaac Olorunfemi who said Nigeria’s infrastructure under the Jonathan administration has witnessed “unparallel transformation,” expressed gratitude to the President for his immense support in hosting the conference.
