Jonathan’s endorsement by the PDP threat to democracy- Lamido support groups

Following the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sole candidate come 2015 poll, the support groups of Alhaji Sule Lamido has said that such move was a threat to Nigerian democray.

The group yesterday described the decision as uncalled for and a plan to do away with prospective aspirants in the party decried while addressing a press conference in Jos.

Speaking through their coordinators, the North Central Youth Movement for Good Governance (NCYMGG) and Nasarawa State Youth Integrity Group, Nafiu Yau Jos and Yahaya Idris, stated that the endorsement of President Jonathan as the sole candidate of the PDP was another form of disenfranchisement.

Yau Jos lambasted the national leadership of the party for disallowing other presidential aspirants their right as citizens of the country, adding that the issue of internal democracy was no longer in the party. It further argued that the party should have allowed members of the party to nominate whoever they like.

Yau said, “We will not be intimidated by this plan and would not relent on our effort to throw weight behind Lamido’s presidential ambition. We are calling on Lamido not to be intimidated and to answer the calls of Nigerians and to declare for the Presidency under the PDP come 2015”.

“We call on Lamido to reject another gimmick plotted by some PDP leaders to woo him to drop his ambition. We are calling on Lamido to battle Jonathan for PDP’s presidential ticket for the 2015 election”, he added.

Yau however advised President Jonathan not to accept the endorsement and allow internal democracy in the party to work.
