Former Kwara council chairman slumps, die

A former Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Kareem Adewumi on Wednesday slumped and died.

The 55-year-old ex-chairman was said to have slumped some few minutes after 1.00 pm at his residence along Ilofa-Omu-Aran road before he was rushed to Omu-Aran General Hospital.

According to reliable sources close to the family, the deceased was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital before any help could come his way.

described it as shocking, stressing that he was hailed and healthy without any sign of illness.

“This is shocking and unbelievable, we were together since morning and he even drove his wife to the shop without showing any sign of imminent death.

“We only noticed he was struggling to breathe and later slumped and we immediately rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead,” he said.

Late Adewumi who hailed from Ile-Ire in Omu-ran, headquarters of Irepodun local government was the chairman of the council between 2003 and 2006.

In his reaction, the present Chairman of the council, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, described the death of Adewumi as a great loss and irreparable loss to the people of the community and the state at large.

“We are all living witnesses to the numerous achievements his tenure had recorded as the chairman of this council and those memories will continue to linger in the minds of the people for a long time,” Owolewa said.

The traditional ruler of Omu-Aran, Oba Charles Ibitoye, described the death of Adewumi as a monumental loss to the people of the community.

“He was loved by all and sundry because of his generosity, kindness and exemplary leadership style he is ever ready to contribute its quota to the development of the community”.
