Journalists boycott Zamfara government activities

The Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council has called for the immediate boycott of all state government activities following continuous intimidation and harassment of its members by security personnel attached to the Government House, Gusau allegedly on the orders from top government officials.
The members, during an emergency meeting also resolved that all press releases and statements eminating from government officials which were usually posted on what’s app platforms should not be treated or sent for publication by the members.
Also in a release by the Chairman Correpondents’Chapel, Comrade Umar Muhammad Maradun, the decision to boycott the state government activities became necessary fear for plan by the security personnel to victimize it’s members while on struggles to gain access into the well cordoned government house.
“We thought the state government will consider the working Journalists in the state as integral part of its efforts in moving the state forward, but unfortunately, the security personnel attached to the government house have been giving us equal treatment as that of criminals”.
The Chairman further said, “The decision to boycott has become necessary as we do fear that, the security personnel may embark on physical battle with our armless and law-abiding members, the results which may not augur well to all policies embarked upon by the state government in it’s bid against criminal activities in the state”.
