Bye-election to fill the vacuum created by the death of a member of Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Kauru/Chawai, Hon. Shuaibu M. Tukura, has been slated for 21st June, 2014. This was decided at the stakeholders meeting between the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties, security and other stakeholders at the INEC headquarters in Kaduna yesterday.
Although, INEC had earlier proposed that the bye election be held on the 24th May, 2014, but the political parties representatives, especially from the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), disagreed with the proposal, arguing that the time frame was too short for them to put their houses in order and campaign for the poll.
They however rescheduled the INEC proposed date and gave wider period for the political parties to campaign, as well as slated the bye election date for 21st June, 2014.
Earlier in his address, the Kaduna INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Haliru Aliyu Tambuwal informed the meeting that the Commission has been organizing series of activities since 2011 to date aimed at achieving a free, fair and credible election come 2015.
