Kaduna delivers 3,267 classrooms, 180 boreholes, 81,540 furniture items — Education Secretaries

Basic education infrastructure in Kaduna State has recorded significant expansion between 2023 and 2026, with 3,267 classrooms constructed or renovated and 81,540 pieces of furniture supplied to schools across the state’s 23 Local Government Areas.

The Kaduna State Forum of Education Secretaries disclosed this on Thursday during a press conference at the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) Conference Hall in Kaduna.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, and General Secretary, Dr Phillip Audu Nwamagyi, the Forum said its assessment was based on documented records of projects completed under the administration of Governor Uba Sani.

According to the Forum, interventions carried out between 2023 and 2026 included the construction or rehabilitation of 3,267 classrooms, 2,232 toilets, 87 science laboratories, 29 computer centres and 180 boreholes in basic education schools across the state.

It said the government also supplied 81,540 pieces of furniture for teachers and pupils, established 35 Games Villages and provided Early Childhood Care, Development and Education (ECCDE) furniture comprising 876 chairs and 236 tables.

The Education Secretaries said the administration also facilitated the construction of four bilingual education schools in Igabi, Zaria, Kubau and Giwa Local Government Areas.

According to the Forum, the four schools provided an additional 192 classrooms and are expected to accommodate about 7,680 learners, including children who might otherwise have remained out of school.

“Together, these investments address learning space, sanitation, water, furniture and other conditions that directly affect school functionality,” the Forum said.

It added that 545,545 teaching and learning materials, 7,584 pieces of sports equipment and 110 SMART Boards were distributed to schools to complement the infrastructure and strengthen classroom teaching and learning.

The Forum, however, stressed that the long-term impact of the investments would depend on proper maintenance and effective utilisation of the facilities.

It urged the state government to prioritise routine maintenance, adequate water and sanitation services, security and the timely replacement of damaged furniture to ensure that the facilities remain functional for pupils and teachers.

The Education Secretaries said the 2023–2026 period had witnessed measurable expansion in infrastructure and learning resources for basic education in Kaduna State.

They called for sustained investment in maintenance, effective teacher deployment, stronger school leadership and proper utilisation of instructional materials to translate the infrastructure gains into improved learning outcomes.
