Kaduna Electric has said its efforts at providing adequate power supply to residents of Kebbi state is severely hampered by the poor customer response to bills payment.
It said this in a statement signed by the company’s Head of Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi which was issued in Kaduna.
The company lamented that the unfavourable response from customers was partly responsible for the load shedding that has led to a drop in the hours of supply in the state.
The statement said a closer look at the monthly cost of energy consumed in the state showed a huge disparity when compared to the payment received from customers.
“in the month of July 2019 for example, energy worth over N746 million was consumed but the payments only amounted to about N200 million. Similarly, in June this year, energy worth over N853 million was consumed with only N211 million received for it.
The situation was not any different in the month of May where the collection was about N177 million against energy consumed worth over N750 million. In April this year also, energy worth N959 million was supplied to the state but just N253 million was realised.” the statement said.
Faced with this daunting challenge, the statement said the company struggles in meeting its obligations to its customers.
Kaduna Electric therefore called for all stakeholders in the state to wake up to this stark reality and take their responsibilities seriously to ensure the electricity business thrives.
“Customers should realise that with the new dispensation, every user of electricity is expected to pay for what he consumes. The company urged residents to embrace the new Meter Asset Provider Scheme introduced by the government to purchase meters in order to better monitor their consumption.
