Kaduna first lady calls for release of abducted girls

Date:

From Ibrahim Mohammed, Kaduna

First Lady of Kaduna state, Hajiya Fatima Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has appealed to the insurgents to release abducted girls and give peace a chance for the country to thrive.

In a press statement signed by her Press Secretary, A’isha Sani Junaid, and made available to Peoples Daily, Hajiya Ramalan Yero condemned the consistent attack on Nigerians and appealed to the insurgents to lay down their arms and release the innocent girls in their custody.

She enjoined them to remember that hostility does not solve any problem, but instead breeds hatred among the people, while pointing out that women and children have been at the receiving end of the maiming and killings.

In her words: “Women have become victims in the hands of their own children”.

The statement said the first lady as a mother, therefore deemed it fit to add her voice to the voices of parents of the abducted girls in calling for their release even as she described the abduction as most disheartening, and terrifying considering the uncertainty surrounding the girls’ fate.

She sympathised with first ladies of the north-eastern states concerning the predicament and commended the spirit of togetherness of Nigerians in the fight against insurgency.

Mrs. Yero, while appreciating efforts of security agencies and the government at all levels, canvassed for dialogue by both sides as a more workable solution for lasting peace in Nigeria.
