Strike out suit against govt over Sayawa Chief, says Yuguda

Date:

From Ahmed Kaigama, Bauchi

Governor Yuguda of Bauchi state has said that government cannot coronate anybody as the traditional ruler (Gung-Zaar) of Sayawa-land until the court case against the government is struck out.

Yuguda made this known when the Gung-Zaar-designate, Air Commodore Ishaku Komo (rtd), in company of council of Sayawa traditional elders paid him a courtesy call at the Government House.

he said yesterday that the court case against the government on the process of installing a Gung Zaar was an impediment even as the state assembly had gazetted the appointment of Sayawa chiefdom.

“I am assuring you that government is committed to coronate whoever among you that was selected for the appointment of Gung Zaar, but our

hands are tied to further carry out the installation process due to the court action against the government by selfish individuals among you” Yuguda said.

Yuguda stressed that his administration has given cultural heritage a serious priority by appointing a separate chiefdom for Sayawa (Gung Zaar) and attributed Tafawa-Balewa religious crises to the interests.

The Governor maintained that government was ready to coronate the person selected as Gung Zaar provided he has the support and leadership quality to administer his subjects.

Yuguda then challenged the Sayawa kingdom to strike the court action against the Bauchi state government to facilitate the process of Sayawa chiefdom, adding that even without crisis government will always install a Gung-Zaar in Tafawa-Balewa.

Kumo regretted the little misunderstanding that mars the coronation Gun zaar of Sayawa chiefdom.

He added that the Zaar nation is a blessing to the Bauchi state government for their political support to Yuguda administration with a promise to mobilise his subject to ensure peace and unity among ethnic groups in the area.
