As the countdown to the commencement of the Holy month of Ramadan 2024 enters its final month, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Dr. Yohanna Buru, has called on religious leaders to address the escalating prices of essential goods.
According to him, The leaders, comprising both Christian and Muslim clerics, are joining forces to embark on an extensive preaching and advocacy campaign at sacred locations across the country to combat the challenges posed by the increasing costs of living.
Speaking on the need for solidarity, he stressed the importance of concerted efforts to alleviate the financial burden on individuals and families, particularly focusing on the rising prices of essential commodities.
Pastor Buru emphasized that the primary goal is to encourage traders to lower the prices of essential goods to become more accessible to Muslims during the fasting period.
He advised marketers not to engage in practices such as hoarding and the creation of artificial scarcity during Ramadan, which would affect those observing the holy month.
“Now is the time to remember widows, the physically challenged, inmates, orphans, and IDPs, so that they can find relief in the holy month.
“Their mission involves appealing to marketers not to exploit the approaching holy month to create artificially inflated prices.”
Pastor Buru highlighted the urgency of their mission, with less than four weeks remaining until Muslims commence their fasting and prayers while hoping to raise 1000 volunteers for the mission.
