From Femi Oyelola in Kaduna
In an effort to accelerate infrastructure development, the Kaduna State Government, led by His Excellency Senator Uba Sani CON, has launched an ambitious program aimed at road construction and the renovation of 15 hospitals across the state.
A team led by the Overseeing Advisor to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Implementation, and Result Delivery, who is also the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, recently inspected several projects in Zone 1.
The focus of this inspection was to assess the quality and progress of various road and hospital projects.
Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed noted that in Zaria Local Government, the government inherited two projects: Zaria and Sabongari, along with the roads stretching from Dogon Bauchi down to Kakiyeyi and River Galma in Zaria Local Government. This 35-kilometer stretch has now been completed.
Additionally, the road from Hanwa to Agoro to Hanga Ruga has also been completed.
He emphasized that during Senator Uba Sani’s administration over the past two years, all 23 local governments have benefited from infrastructure projects, whether completed or ongoing.
He explained that the 35.6-kilometer road from Bagoma to Gagumi in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area represents the longest road construction in decades.
Dr. Ahmed also mentioned another significant project, the 35-kilometer road from Gadan Gayan through Gwaraji to Kujama Junction, linking the Igabi and Chikun Local Government Areas.
According to him, this road has been described as a “game-changer” for the rural communities it connects, significantly easing transportation and boosting economic activity.
The inspection team visited multiple sites where construction is actively happening and checked on the contractors’ progress. They are expected to lay asphalt on one of the roads next week.
Other projects under inspection included the Makarfi-Durum-Kurntumawa road, the Kudan-Sabongari road, and the roads surrounding Sabongari Market.
The team also toured the Makarfi General Hospital, which is undergoing substantial remodeling, upgrading, and equipping.
Engineer Ziad Karam, Project Manager of MotherCat Zaria (the contractor handling the Sabongari Market road project), reported that the project is in its final stages. Earthmoving is complete, and hydraulic structures are in place. He assured that the road will be finished by the end of the year and expressed gratitude for the community’s support and cooperation.
Mr. Gbolahan Awoleru, Site Engineer for the renovation works at Makarfi General Hospital, stated that significant progress has been made, including the completion of electrical work, roofing, and tiling. He expressed confidence that the hospital project will also be completed by the end of the year and thanked the community for their assistance.
Governor Uba Sani’s administration has placed a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, with numerous roads and hospitals currently under construction or renovation throughout the state. These projects are being executed by reputable contractors, including MotherCat, CGC China, CCECC, PW, and FAMTRAC. They are expected to enhance the quality of life for residents of Kaduna and stimulate economic growth.
The Overseeing Advisor to the Governor reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring that all projects meet high standards and are completed on time. He commended the contractors for their efforts and urged them to maintain quality workmanship.
The infrastructure initiatives of the Kaduna State Government embody Governor Uba Sani’s vision for a more developed and prosperous state. With multiple projects underway, Kaduna is poised to emerge as a significant economic hub in Nigeria.
During the inspection tour, Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Sabongari, expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for the ongoing infrastructure projects in the area. As a trader at the Sabongari Central Market, he appreciates the governor’s efforts to improve the lives of Kaduna residents and boost economic growth through projects like the road leading to the market.
Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke of the positive changes brought by the projects: “The roads are being constructed, and the hospitals are being renovated. It’s a big change for us, and we’re grateful to Governor Uba Sani for his efforts.”
Mrs. Fatima Ali, another resident, shared her happiness regarding the progress of the projects: “We’ve been waiting for these improvements for a long time. The roads were in terrible condition, and the hospitals were not functioning well. Thanks to Governor Uba Sani, things are changing for the better.”
Local residents have also commended the governor’s commitment to ensuring that the projects meet high-quality standards. “The governor is not just constructing roads and hospitals; he’s making sure they are done properly. The quality of work is excellent, and we’re proud of what he’s doing,” said Mr. Gbolahan Awoleru.
