The Kaduna State government yesterday called on the leadership of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to collaborate with the state government in its efforts to improve health service delivery to its citizenry.
Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero who made this call during the official commissioning of MDCN zonal edifice in Kaduna, noted the pivotal role of the health sector in nation building, makes it imperative for collaboration with government at all levels.
The Governor, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Ambassador Audu Bajoga said that the state government is ready to improve working condition and general welfare of health workers in the state.
In his address, the council’s Registrar, Dr. Abdulmumini Ibrahim informed the gathering that the zonal headquarters office was put in place to improve the welfare of registered medical professionals and to accommodate complaints from Nigerians as regarding medical services rendition in the zone.
Meanwhile, the MDCN National Chairman, Professor Jonathan Azubike has said at a press conference that poor working environment is one of several factors responsible for brain-drain and medical tourism embarked upon by Nigerians on a daily basis.
Professor Azubike called of governments at all levels to put in place workable mechanism to effect discipline among health workers as well as improve medical facilities in the country to stop the massive exodus of medical experts into foreign countries in search of greener pastures.
