Tarauni Local Government Area has recorded a major milestone in its fight against polio after successfully immunising 69,820 children during the April round of the polio vaccination campaign conducted across its 10 wards.
The Primary Healthcare Coordinator in the area, Muktar Datti-Gwarzo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the Council’s Information Officer, Adamu Ilyasu-Hotoro.
According to Datti-Gwarzo, health workers administered more than 75,850 doses of the oral polio vaccine during the exercise, reflecting strong community participation and commitment to child healthcare in the area.
He attributed the success of the campaign to the collaboration and support of health workers, stakeholders, parents and traditional leaders, whose efforts ensured that eligible children received the vaccine.
Datti-Gwarzo urged parents and guardians to continue cooperating with health officials during future immunisation exercises to safeguard children against polio and other preventable childhood diseases.
The Chairman of Tarauni Local Government Area, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim-Sekure, commended the health workers for what he described as a remarkable achievement, praising their dedication, professionalism and commitment to improving public health in the council area.
