Kano Drug Availability in Public Health Facilities Rises Above 90% Under Yusuf’s Administration – DMCSA

Date:

The Kano Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) has announced that the availability of essential medicines in public health facilities across the state has increased from 30 per cent in 2023 to more than 90 per cent within three years.

The Director-General of the agency, Mr. Gali Sule, disclosed this on Monday during a press conference in Kano to commemorate the third anniversary of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

Sule said the occasion also coincided with the third anniversary of his appointment as Director-General on July 16, providing an opportunity to review the agency’s achievements, ongoing reforms and future plans.

According to him, the agency, established to procure and distribute quality, affordable drugs and medical consumables to government-owned health facilities, has recorded significant progress under the current administration.

He recalled that when the Yusuf administration assumed office in 2023, drug availability in public health facilities stood at only about 30 per cent, leaving many essential medicines out of stock.

He attributed the remarkable improvement to sustained government investments and reforms, noting that the availability of medicines and medical consumables has now surpassed 90 per cent across the state.

“This achievement has been recognised and applauded across the country because we never imagined it could be attained within three years,” Sule said.

The DMCSA boss further revealed that the agency inherited outstanding debts of approximately N1.2 billion owed to pharmaceutical suppliers but successfully cleared all liabilities by January 2026.

He described the debt repayment as a major milestone that restored the confidence of pharmaceutical suppliers and strengthened Kano State’s medical supply chain.

Sule added that the achievement earned Governor Yusuf an Award of Excellence and Appreciation from the Association of Nigerian Industrial Pharmacists in recognition of his commitment to clearing the inherited debts.

According to him, the award is scheduled to be presented on July 16.

He also disclosed that activities marking the administration’s third anniversary commenced with Qur’anic recitations and special prayers for Nigeria, Kano State, Governor Yusuf, the Ministry of Health and other government officials.
