Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has laid the foundation for the construction of a N1.3 billion ultra-modern secondary school in Kaura Goge, Nasarawa Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the project is aimed at replacing the defunct Maikwatashi Secondary School, which had fallen into disrepair and suffered land encroachment, with portions allegedly sold off illegally.
According to the statement, the development prompted the governor’s intervention and commitment to provide a new, functional learning facility for the community.
Yusuf also announced the transfer of the former Maikwatashi school premises to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies (CAS) for continued educational use.
The governor noted that the new school would significantly reduce the burden on students who currently travel long distances, particularly to Sabon Gari, to access secondary education.
“There are a large number of students in this area who have to commute to Sabon Gari for schooling. This project is designed to bring education closer to them,” he said.
Yusuf urged residents to cooperate with the contractor to ensure smooth execution, while also warning the contractor to adhere strictly to quality standards.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Goni Ali Haruna Makoda, disclosed that the project would cost N1.3 billion and feature 32 classrooms, 36 toilets, four libraries, and other essential facilities.
Makoda described the project as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and improving access to quality education in the state.
