Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has declared that he will not tolerate violence or bloodshed in pursuit of a second term in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the will of the people will ultimately determine his political future.
Speaking with journalists in Lagos, the governor emphasised that his re-election bid would be guided strictly by public opinion and accountability, rather than desperation for power.
Kefas said he remains open to feedback from the electorate and would accept rejection if the people are dissatisfied with his performance.
“If the people say no, I will be happy to understand where I got it wrong. Leadership is about the people,” he said.
He stressed that no political ambition is worth the loss of lives, noting that he would rather step down than allow violence in the electoral process.
“I would prefer to go home than allow people to kill themselves because of my ambition,” he added.
Reflecting on his political journey, Kefas recalled stepping down during the 2019 governorship race, describing his eventual emergence as governor as a product of timing, alignment, and faith.
The governor urged politicians to embrace patience and trust the democratic process, warning against desperate measures.
On governance, Kefas said his administration is focused on building a lasting legacy, anchored on long-term development planning.
He revealed that upon assuming office, the state lacked a comprehensive development framework.
“You cannot achieve meaningful progress without a plan,” he said.
According to him, his administration has now developed a statewide master plan covering all local governments to drive sustainable growth and better harness Taraba’s natural resources.
Kefas also reiterated that his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress was made in the best interest of the state, pledging to work collaboratively to secure a better future for its citizens.
He reaffirmed his commitment to leaving a meaningful legacy, stating that his goal is to position Taraba for continued development beyond his tenure.
