Kano Government Launches Digital Platforms for Project Monitoring, Procurement

Date:

From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

The Kano State Government has introduced two digital platforms to strengthen project monitoring, improve transparency in public procurement and enhance accountability in the implementation of government projects.

The platforms are the Kano State Integrated Project Monitoring System, available at kanoprocurement.ng, and the Kano State Digital Public Procurement Platform, accessible through procurement.kn.gov.ng.

The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Iro Maaji, announced the development during the ministry’s monthly press conference in Kano on Monday.

Maaji said the digital platforms would complement physical inspections and monitoring visits by improving project tracking, documentation, reporting and the use of field evidence in management decisions.

According to him, the project monitoring system is designed to improve the organisation and geographical tracking of project implementation data, while providing greater visibility into the progress of government-funded projects.

He described the launch of the digital public procurement platform as a significant step towards establishing more transparent, structured and traceable procurement processes in the state.

The commissioner said the initiative would strengthen audit trails, promote fair access to procurement opportunities, reduce administrative bottlenecks and improve value for money in public spending.

“Beyond physical site inspections and monitoring visits, this ministry is strengthening oversight through a digital innovation domiciled in the Kano State Integrated Project Monitoring System,” Maaji said.

He added that the ministry would continue to improve the completeness and reliability of project data, as well as strengthen follow-up reporting to support informed decision-making.

Maaji noted that the reforms were consistent with the objectives of the Kano State Public Procurement Law, 2021.

However, he stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on effective adoption by the 10 pilot ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), sustained capacity development and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Kano Government Inspects 106 Projects Worth ₦48.91bn

The commissioner also disclosed that the ministry inspected 106 projects valued at approximately ₦48.91 billion across six local government areas of the state in September 2026.

The local government areas are Kabo, Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, Shanono, Gwarzo and Bagwai.

He explained that the monitoring exercise assessed the physical progress of projects, the quality of executed works, the functionality of completed facilities and the challenges affecting implementation.

According to the commissioner, 80 of the 106 projects, representing approximately 75.5 per cent, had attained 100 per cent physical progress, while 20 were at various stages of completion and six had been recently awarded.

Maaji said the inspections covered civil engineering, building and power and energy infrastructure, including roads, classrooms, school renovation projects, healthcare facilities, neighbourhood security divisional offices, solar-powered streetlights, drainage systems and water supply facilities.

He said the monitoring exercise was aimed at ensuring that public investments delivered measurable benefits to residents rather than being assessed solely on the basis of contract awards.

“Our technical teams assessed the situation, commended good work execution, offered corrective measures where applicable, and will pursue follow-up inspections on contractor engagement, quality assurance and remedial actions as necessary,” he said.

Focus on Education, Healthcare and Community Development

Maaji said the ministry recorded progress in educational infrastructure, neighbourhood security facilities, major road corridors, solar streetlighting and healthcare projects.

He explained that investments in classrooms, school furniture and rehabilitation works were expected to support better learning environments, while road and drainage projects would improve connectivity, commercial activities and the transportation of agricultural produce.

He added that investments in healthcare, water supply, rural electrification and security infrastructure were essential to improving public welfare, community safety and living conditions across the state.

The commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to monitoring government projects, enforcing procurement standards and ensuring that public resources were used effectively.

He said the ultimate objective was to ensure that government-funded projects translated into sustainable infrastructure and improved public services for the people of Kano State.
