The Kano State Government has awarded contracts valued at N27.806 billion for the construction of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The state government said the project is aimed at expanding access to digital learning, e-examinations and technology-based skills for young people at the grassroots.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Aminu Bello Sani, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Speaking at the contract award ceremony held at the ministry’s conference hall, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mohammed Tajo Othman, described the project as a major milestone for the state.
Othman attributed the initiative to the vision and commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, saying the establishment of ICT/CBT centres in all 44 LGAs would bring digital opportunities closer to residents.
According to him, the centres would be equipped with modern facilities, including high-capacity internet server networks, 300 computers per centre, and uninterrupted power supply supported by the national grid, solar energy and standby generators.
The commissioner said the project was expected to be completed within 16 to 18 weeks, describing it as a major investment in digital infrastructure across the state.
The companies listed as contractors for the project are Odaleg Properties and Constructions Limited, Aytaam Construction Limited, Trusted Development, KODAK PRIME, VIND R&D PARTNERSHIP Limited, and CORNERSTONE CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING Limited.
The statement added that Vivid RBD Partnership Limited would serve as the project consultant responsible for overall supervision and quality assurance.
The contractors expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for awarding them the project and pledged to execute the contracts according to the required standards and within the stipulated timeframe.
Othman also said teams from the affected LGAs and the ministry would conduct regular inspections of the project sites to monitor progress and ensure compliance with quality standards.
When completed, the centres are expected to create employment opportunities and provide facilities for JAMB, WAEC, NECO and other computer-based examinations, as well as serve as hubs for digital skills training across Kano State.
The project is also expected to strengthen access to technology and digital education for residents, particularly young people in rural and underserved communities.
