The Kano State Government has denied any involvement in the proposed land-swap arrangement at Federal Government College (FGC), Kano.
The government said the clarification became necessary following recent media reports alleging its participation in a deal involving part of the school’s land.
Reports indicated that Pluck Global Construction Company had proposed a concession of the college’s 33-hectare land to fund infrastructure development estimated at N8 billion.
The company described the proposal as a strategic intervention aimed at upgrading the institution’s facilities without financial burden on the Federal Government.
However, the plan has faced opposition from the Federal Government College Kano Old Students Association (FGCKOSA), which protested against the project, citing lack of stakeholder engagement.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, said the state government was not involved in any arrangement, negotiation, or agreement concerning the property.
He stated that FGC Kano is under the control of the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Education, which is solely responsible for decisions relating to the institution.
The government also dismissed claims linking the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the proposed transaction, describing them as misleading and unfounded.
It urged media organisations to adhere to the principles of accuracy and responsible journalism, and to avoid publishing unverified reports.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, the rule of law, and the protection of public interest.
