The Kano Youths Coalition (KYC) has asked former Managing Director of the Nigeria Port Authority and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Mallam Aminu Dabo, to publicly declare his interest to contest the Kano state 2015 gubernatorial election.

The call was contained in a press statement signed by Mr. Sani Abdullahi and Mr. Dan Kabiru, the association’s chairman and publicity secretary, respectively.

The association said its request to Dabo was based on the need to sustain the good works and legacies of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

‘In the last three months we have visited all the local government areas of Kano state, consulting on the need to present a credible and acceptable governorship candidate under the platform of APC in the coming general elections. Our primary concern is how we can sustain the works of our performing governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’, the group said.

The group added that in order to sustain the governor’s legacy, the state needs a thorough breed technocrat and credible politician who commands grassroots’ support that has been part of the policy formulation and implementation of ‘Governor Kwankwaso’s luadable and sound projects’ across all local government areas in the state.

According to the group, ‘We have done our research based on broad consultations with relevant stakeholders in the state and our finding reveals that among all those eyeing the governor’s seat, Mallam Aminu Dabo is the most popular and acceptable person. Apart from the fact that he has closely worked with Governor Kwankwaso, he is a very loyal APC’s member who is concerned about the party’s programmes.’

The group advised APC’s leaders in the state to be mindful of the desperation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in determining APC’s candidate for the coming general elections.

‘For APC to be able to confront the political forces of PDP and its desperation to capture Kano State in the 2015 general elections, we need a candidate that is in touch with the grassroots’, the statement added.

The group said in the coming days its teeming members would formally meet with Aminu Dabo to formally present their request to him and commence mass mobilisation for him across the state.
