A political group, the Gandujiyya Movement, has cautioned former Kano State Governor and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC ),Alhaji Umar Ganduje, against backing the nomination of a former Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Garo, as deputy governor of Kano State.
The warning follows the recent resignation of the state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, which has triggered intense political manoeuvring within the APC over who should fill the vacant position.
Abdussalam had, in a letter dated March 27, 2026, stepped down from office amid political developments in the state, including the defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the APC, a move he reportedly declined to follow.
In an open letter signed by its leader, Engr. Habibu Danmadamin, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Friday, the Gandujiyya Movement expressed concern over what it described as growing pressure to install Garo as deputy governor.
The group said, “The current push to position Murtala Garo for the deputy governor seat has raised serious concerns among members of the movement.”
It added that there were “capable individuals within the fold who could effectively serve in the position,” urging the party leadership to prioritise unity and competence in making a decision.
The movement also advised Ganduje to take a more inclusive approach in managing political interests within the group to avoid internal divisions.
It further called for reforms within its structure, stressing the need for stronger leadership and cohesion in the face of evolving political realities in Kano State.
