Kano introduces radio learning programme for nomads

Kano state Agency for Mass Literacy, has introduced a radio learning programme for nomadic people in the state to enhance their education.

This was made known by the Executive Secretary, Kano State Agency for Mass Literacy, Professor Fatima Umar, in a live programme, titled “Zaman ‘yan marina”, monitored on Rahama 97.3FM, yesterday in Kano State.

According to her, the programme is being aired on the state’s own radio station, following the directive from Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to teach them via radio as they go about their nomadic activities.

She added that, about 200,000 of the 300,000 people benefiting from the programme are nomads, that is why Kano state government deemed it fit to teach them through the medium.

She further stated that “the government has distributed writing materials to them to encourage those who can write to jot down what is being taught to them on the Radio.”

The professor also stressed that the initiative is part of governor’s commitment towards development of education, adding that thousands of women have benefited from the agency’s skills acquisition programmes before now.
