Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced the provision of essential food items and commodities to support the 1,500 couples wedded under the state-sponsored mass wedding scheme, tagged Auren Gata.
Speaking at the weekend during a reception held for the newlyweds at the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf explained that the intervention aims to ease potential financial challenges during the initial stages of their marriages.
In his address to the couples, the governor emphasized the foundational values needed to maintain a successful home, urging them to exercise patience, justice, mutual respect, and understanding.
Highlighting marriage as a sacred act of worship (Ibadah), Governor Yusuf urged the couples to align their households with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, applying the lessons learned during their pre-marital counseling sessions.
The governor acknowledged the Chairman of the Council of Emirs alongside the Emirs of Kano, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya for their fatherly guidance, while also thanking Islamic scholars (Ulama) nationwide who attended to offer prayers and guidance.
Regional support was highlighted by the presence of North-West governors, including Katsina State Governor Umar Dikko Radda, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, and Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, alongside their representatives.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf commended the Kano State Hisbah Board, led by Commander-General Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, for coordinating the initiative and promoting societal moral values.
The governor concluded by expressing gratitude to the business community, diplomatic corps, civil society organizations, and development partners for their contributions to the success of the program, while offering prayers for peaceful, blessed homes for all the newlyweds.
