Kano: Replicate our programs in your areas, Ganduje tells new LG chairmen

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Sunday night, swore in the 44 newly elected local government Chairmen newly elected in the state.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), had swept all the 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship seats in the election, conducted on Saturday, February 10.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony which was held at the Indoor Hall of the Sani Abacha stadium, Ganduje also called on the council chairmen to “fast track development at the grassroots.”
He said the victory at the election was proof that the people of the state were solidly behind him and his party. He tasked the chairmen, “to replicate the programmes of the state government in your respective areas.”
The governor assured that the new council chairmen would be assisted by the state government to develop their councils and demanded prudent management of resources.
Ganduje further advised them to cooperate with judiciary, security, civil service and traditional rulers to transform their respective areas.
Attorney General of the state and commissioner of Justice, Mr Ibrahim Muktar, administered the oath of office to the new chairmen.
A coalition of Civil Society Organisations, under the aegis of Domestic Election Observers Organisation, has described the just concluded Local Government election in Kano State as “internationally standard”.
Addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), secretariat in Kano, yesterday, the coordinator of the organization, Muhammad Al-Jamil Hashidu, said CSOs were satisfied with the conduct of the election.
According to him, the polls were free, fair and peaceful, adding that all the voting materials were dispatched across all the 44 Local Government areas in the state.
He added that, the assessment of the observers saw at the respective polling stations, revealed that the exercise was conducted peacefully.
Hashidu further said that the election was greeted by large turnout of voters who reported to the polling stations for accreditation, since 8:00 am.
“Although, there was a late in the arrival of the sensitive materials, which was caused by the delay in the arrival of the cargo, the KANSIEC officials promptly dispatched the materials to every polling station in the state.
“To the best of our observations, the election was free, fair, credible and violent-free.
“The security operatives helped a lot in making the election hitch-free. In everywhere our members were deployed, we witnessed the security operatives in patrol. This is very impressive and commendable.
“Also, we have to commend the chairman of KANSIEC, Prof. Garba Ibrahim Sheka for his good performance.
“We also commend the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for his support towards the success of this election, “he said.
