Stakeholders blame lack of development in Igedeland on poor representation

Date:

Stakeholders from Igedeland have decried that 25 years of political representation since 1999 has not translated into meaningful development for the community.

This was one of the key observations in a communique issued after the 2nd Annual Public Lecture of the Association of Igede Media Professionals in Abuja on July 16.

According to the communique, “Poverty, absence of infrastructure, lack of industries, and underdevelopment persist despite the community’s agricultural potential and human capital.”

The meeting urged the electorate to shun vote-selling and vote for competence, while charging the media to remain partners in development through accountability journalism.

AIMP also resolved to work toward establishing a credible, non-partisan body to mentor future leaders and ensure only those with integrity and capacity are supported by the community.

Other dignitaries present included the member representing Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, Mr David Ogewu; PDP Candidate for Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, General Ede Ode; NDC Candidate for Benue South Senatorial District, Dr Isaac Egboja, SDP Governorship Running Mate, Dr Margaret Oga; Provost of College of Education, Oju, Prof. Boniface Odeh and President General of Omi Ny’Igede Worldwide, Comrade Omeno Eduh Daniel.

Participants expressed hope that implementing the recommendations will “position the community for greater unity, relevance, and development ahead of 2027.”
