Kano state government has spent N77 million in empowering 520 youth through fish farming, the state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has disclosed.
Kwankwaso made the disclosure during the combined graduation ceremony of 3rd batch of 400 female trainees of Aquaculture Fisheries Institute, Bagauda and 1st batch of 120 male trainees of Magaga Fisheries Skills Acquisition Training Centre, Gwarzo held at Government House, Kano on Tuesday.
According to the governor, N60 million was spent on the training and empowerment of the 400 women, explaining that N120,000 was spent on fishery facilities given to each beneficiary.
On the other hand, N17 million was expended in training and empowerment of 120 males at Magaga centre, said the governor, adding that they will get a post training package of nine facilities including one life jacket, 12 yards of cast-net materials and 18 packets of assorted hooks.
Governor Kwankwaso said this gesture would help government in taking unemployed youth off the streets as well as empowering women, hence creating and sustaining wealth in the state.
