The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji has said that sending federal civil servants for overseas training was suspended in order to ensure that more officers are trained in Nigeria with the available funds.
The Head of Service said this when executive members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) visited his Office in Abuja.
According to Aji, “we are aware that the amount of money being used to train just one officer overseas could be used to train about ten officers locally. Our aim is to ensure that all civil servants have access to training. This is why we are upgrading our local training institutions so that we can achieve the same impact as those being trained abroad.”
In a statement signed by Dr. Tope Ajakaiye, Director (Communications), the Head of Service has said further that the federal government is presently attending to the welfare of its workforce.
Aji said efforts are being made to settle all entitlements owed staff members such as promotion arrears, transfer allowances and other benefits within a period of two years while according to him, other issues such as career stagnation and payment of housing loans are also being addressed through some innovative approaches.
