Governor Aminu Bello Masari and his Deputy , Quantity Surveyor Mannir Yakubu has tested negative to Covid-19.
The state Deputy Governor Mannir Yakubu announced this during a press briefing held at Government House, Katsina.
He announced that a committee has been set up to be known as “Katsina State Covid-19 response and emergency committee” under the leadership of the Deputy Governor.
Membership of the committee, he said include Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal to serve as Deputy chairman, the speaker of the state house of assembly, Alhaji Tasi’u Maigari Musa Zango, the Attorney General and commissioner of Justice Alhaji Ahmed Usman El-Marzuq, the state commissioner of finance, Alhaji Kasimu Abdul Mutallab, the state commissioner of health, Engineer Nuhu Yakubu Danja and the chief of staff, Alhaji Muntari Lawal.
Yakubu explained that the main purpose of the committee is to assist the state ministry of health in responding as quickly as possible to the uncommon health challenges of our time.
He said that the committee had already swung into action and had been receiving donations from public spirited individuals both within and outside the state.
The Deputy Governor assured that government appreciated the show of support to government in its effort to stop the spread of the new corona virus.
Alhaji Mannir Yakubu announced that donations so far received include Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal who donated one hundred million Naira, United Bank of Africa-UBA that donated 28.5 million Naira, an anonymous donor who presented ten million Naira, Alhaji Mannir Abukur also donated ten million Naira and Alhaji Salisu continental computers who donated five million naira.
The Deputy Governor, however, requested more public spirited individuals to donate generously to the committee.
He also requested members of the public from time to time to await information to be issued by the committee.
Yakubu revealed that isolation centres have been established for now at General Hospital katsina and the federal Medical centre, katsina.
He said if the situation so demands, he said another center is being proposed at a location along Dutsen safe road in Katsina.
