Katsina farmers tasked on tree planting

Farmers in Katsina state have been encouraged to plant tree seedlings to compliment the effort of government and international agencies towards curtailing the menace of desert encroachment in the state.
The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Umar Yau Gwajo-Gwajo made this assertion while flagging off this year’s distribution of seedlings to Farmers across seven local government areas in Mashi council Secretariat.
Gwajo-Gwajo represented by the director water and sanitation in the ministry, Engineer Labaran Haruna charged the benefitting Farmers to make proper utilization of the seedlings to achieve the desired goal.
The Commissioner who acknowledged the effort of sustainability for the improvement of the fire wood balance project in distributing the seedlings assured of the ministry’s support to the project to achieve the targeted mandate.
Earlier, the state chairman sustainability of fuel wood balance project, Alhaji Abba Balarabe Sarkin Dawan Katsina said about three thousand five hundred different seedlings would be distributed to registered Farmers in the seven council areas.
Balarabe assured that, the project would conduct regular monitoring to ensure that every benefitting Farmers and participating schools plant trees collected to protect the environment.
He however requested the ministry to support the project by including the names of two nursery attendants, two nursery watchmen and two patrol guards into the local government pay roll to ensure the security and development of the sites across the designated council areas.
On his part, the Head of Mashi local government administration, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Hussain on behalf of the benefitting LGAs, promised to prevent the menace of desert encroachment in their council areas.
