
Katsina Police ban arms-bearing groups from Sallah procession
The Katsina State Police Command has banned arms-bearing groups locally known as “Yan tauri, from participating in the durbar procession marked to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr festival.
The ban is part of robust security measures adopted by the command ahead of the festivities which will begin on Friday.
A statement issued by the command spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu said adequate assets and personnel has been deployed to ensure the security of lives and property before, during, and after the Eid celebrations.
“The command, in collaboration with sister security agencies in the state, is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for citizens to celebrate the festive period.
“In collaboration with the durbar organisation committee, the Command has banned “Yan Tauri” from participating in the Sallah Durbar, and this ban applies to any other individual or group bearing dangerous weapons such as knives, clubs, swords, etc.
“Members of the public are advised to comply with this directive so as to ensure a smooth and successful Durbar,” the statement added.
The Command urged parents and guardians to play a proactive role in cautioning their children and wards against engaging in vices that contravene the law, such as unlawful assembly, illegal horse riding, traffic offences, and other forms of anti-social behaviour.
The command also warns criminal elements, especially social miscreants and individuals engaging in illegal activities, to refrain from such acts, as it is prepared to deal decisively with those who attempt to cause a breach of the relative peace.
“The public is urged to be vigilant and promptly report incidents or suspicious activities to the command. Your cooperation and support are crucial in our efforts to maintain peace and security in the state. We assure the public of our commitment to protecting lives and property and will continue to work tirelessly towards ensuring a safer and more secured Katsina State.
