Kebbi Govt Approves Funds for Healthcare, Roads, Irrigation
The Kebbi State Government has announced funding for new projects to accelerate development across key sectors in the state.
The state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Bk, made this known while briefing newsmen on the new projects approved by the state Executive Council.
The Commissioner said that the funding approvals and strategic interventions were aimed at addressing infrastructure deficit and improving the wellbeing of citizens.
In the health sector, he said that the State Executive Council approved the sum of ₦926,371,292.16 for the immediate rehabilitation and upgrading of the Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital in Zuru, which is in a deplorable condition.
He said additional ₦1,709,525,252.53 was also approved for the rehabilitation of 21 Primary Health Centres across the state.
Yakubu BK said work has already commenced at the various project sites and when concluded, would strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure more efficient and responsive services.
In the area of agriculture and rural development, the commissioner said N2 billion additional counterpart funding for the second phase of Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, RAAMP Scale-Up, has been approved.
Yakubu BK said another N1 billion has been approved as seed capital for the take- off of the Kebbi State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA).
“These releases ensure that Kebbi state remains up-to-date with its obligations to international partners, who have committed approximately 1 billion US dollars to the project,” he said.
In the water and irrigation sectors, he said Kebbi State has emerged among the 28 states that successfully met the criteria for the World Bank-supported Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) project.
“To secure participation, from this initiative, which focuses on food security and dam safety, the government approved and fully released ₦500,000,000 in counterpart funding.”
According to the Commissioner, this initiative is expected to enhance food security, improve dam safety and create substantial employment opportunities, particularly for the state’s large agricultural workforce.
He also said that the government has approved ₦975,076,883.00 for the ongoing electrification of Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu Housing Estate in Birnin Kebbi to enhance security and stimulate economic activities.
The Commissioner stated that these interventions were part of the governor’s efforts to fulfill his campaign promises.
He urged the people of Kebbi State to continue their support for the administration in its efforts to deliver sustained development and the dividends of democracy for all.
